A white enchantress

Narrow and pristine roads fringed by the estate foliage, sun shining tenuously on a moist day, the sound of numerous crickets overtaking the engine noise — these are a few elements one might enjoy on the way to Mallalli Falls. Situated in Somwarpet taluk, Mallalli Falls is a less known, yet, one of the exquisite falls of Kodagu district. It is 23 km from Somwarpet and 59 km from Madikeri.

Descending from the foothills of Pushpagiri Range, River Kumaradhara flows through four villages and reaches Mallalli. Gaining momentum, the river flows down as a fuming enchantress from 87 feet above and spatters its frosty fog metres away. No voice can outdo her roar, and no soul can watch her closely without getting drenched.

The falls emits invincible strength during monsoon and getting into the water is forbidden in this season. From Mallalli, River Kumaradhara flows down to Kukke Subrahmanya and joins River Nethravathi.

While the white enchantress can be spotted from the parking area above, it can be witnessed up-close only after hiking down numerous steps for two km.

An offbeat scenic spot, one can drive down to the foothills of Pushpagiri from here (seven km from Mallalli) and hike around the picturesque range. Further, on the way back to Somwarpet, one can even visit the historical Honnammana Kere and witness the beauty of the lake temple.
